1. Du hast mit Rät N FrikK in der Musikbranche angefangen. Wie war das für dich?
Nun, um fair zu sein habe ich schon früher in der Musikindustrie angefangen, aber den Großteil meiner Musikkarriere, einschließlich der größten Highlights, habe ich mit meinem Kumpel FrikK geteilt. Es war eine unglaubliche Erfahrung und ein unvergessliches Abenteuer, das etwa 11 Jahre dauerte. Die Träume, die wir als Team verwirklichen konnten, sind Erinnerungen, die ich immer in Ehren halten werde.
2. Jetzt tritst du unter einem anderen Namen auf. Was genau hat es damit auf sich?
Als FrikK beschloss, die Band zu verlassen, war das für mich ein ziemlich harter Schlag. Wir hatten nie ein schlechtes Verhältnis zueinander, aber das Ende von Rät N FrikK war nicht meine Entscheidung und ich wollte weitermachen. Da wir immer zu zweit waren, hätte es sich falsch angefühlt, mit jemand anderem unter demselben Namen weiterzumachen. Deshalb habe ich mich entschieden, unter dem Namen RATKID weiter zu machen.
3. Zusammen mit Dr. Rude hast du deinen vierten Solotrack veröffentlicht. Wie kam es zu dieser Zusammenarbeit und ist noch mehr geplant?
Meine erste EP 'This is RATKID' umfasste drei Songs und diente als Grundlage und Baustein für dieses Projekt. Die Songs sind vom Sound her sehr vielfältig und variieren von Freestyle über Hardstyle bis hin zu Hardcore und werden alle von meinen Vocals begleitet. Ähnlich dem Workflow, den ich mit FrikK hatte, erstelle ich die Melodien, den Vocal-Mix und die gesamte Songstruktur und gebe dann den Kick und das gesamte Audio-Design an einen anderen Produzenten ab. So bin ich auch zu Dr. Rude gekommen. Ich hatte einen Entwurf für diesen Song, der ihm sehr gefiel und den er fertigstellen wollte. So kamen wir dazu, gemeinsam an diesem Song zu arbeiten und ich bin wirklich verdammt stolz auf das Ergebnis.
Es ist ein Remake der Version von The Offspring aus dem Jahr 1994, in der Bryan Holland über sein geringes Selbstwertgefühl singt... Ich habe den Text so umgeschrieben, dass es eine Ode an das Original ist, aber das Skript wurde so umgedreht, dass es eine Feier von hohem Selbstwertgefühl mit einer "Fuck-em-all"-Attitüde ist. Glücklicherweise hat uns Bryan Holland die Erlaubnis gegeben, diese Überarbeitung seines Songs zu veröffentlichen, was ihn noch legitimer macht denke ich! Dr. Rude und ich haben auf jeden Fall vor, weitere Songs zusammen zu produzieren!
4. Was sind deine musikalischen Pläne für die Zukunft?
Um ehrlich zu sein, sind meine Pläne in der Musik immer sehr umfangreich und weit gefächert. Aber als ich den Grundstein für mein RATKID-Projekt legte, war es Ende 2020... als die Rave- und Festival-Kultur einen massiven Einbruch erlebte. Ich habe ein paar Versuche im "Free-Party"-Bereich unternommen, aber während dieser Zeit habe ich mich hauptsächlich auf einige meiner anderen Projekte konzentriert, für die ich Musik mache, die weniger auf Raves und Festivals ausgerichtet ist. Nun, da es scheint, dass wir endlich wieder mehr Partys und Festivals genießen können, freue ich mich darauf, auch mehr RATKID-Sachen zu veröffentlichen. Ich genieße und kreiere härtere Stile in vielen Variationen und versuche, etwas Punk einzubauen, sowohl im Sound als auch in der Einstellung. Ich schätze, ihr könnt mehr davon erwarten, und ich hoffe, dass ich auch mehr dieser tollen Zusammenarbeiten haben werde!

1. You started with Rät N FrikK in the music industry. What was that like for you?
Well to be fair I started out in the music-industry earlier, but the majority of my music career, inclu-ding the biggest highlights, I shared with my buddy FrikK. It was an amazing experience and an unfor-gettable adventure that lasted for about 11 years. The dreams we got to live out as a team are me-mories that I'll cherish forever.
2. Now you perform under a different name. What exactly is that all about?
When FrikK decided he wanted to 'quit the band', it was a pretty hard blow for me to take. There have never been any hard feelings towards eachother but the end of Rät N FrikK wasn't my choice and I wanted to continue. Since it was always the two of us, it would've felt wrong to go on with so-meone else under the same name. That's why I decided to continue under the name RATKID.
3. Together with Dr. Rude you released your fourth solo track. How did the collaboration come about and is there more planned?
My first EP 'This is RATKID' counted three songs and acted as a foundation and a building brick for this project. The songs are pretty diverse in sound, and vary from freestyle to hardstyle to hardcore and are all accompanied by my vocals. Similar to the workflow I had with FrikK, I create the melodies, vocalmix and overall song structures and then outsource the kick- and overall audio design to another producer. This is how I got into with Dr. Rude. I had a draft for this song which he really liked and wanted to finish. That's how we got to collaborate on this song and I'm really fucking proud of the results.
It's a remake of The Offspring's 1994 version in which Bryan Holland sings about having low self es-teem... I re-wrote the lyrics to where it's an ode to the original, yet the script is flipped to where it's a celebration of high self esteem with a fuck-em-all attitude. Luckily Bryan Holland gave us permission to release this re-work of his song, which makes it even more legit, I think! Dr. Rude and I are defeni-tely planning to work on more songs together!
4. What are your musical plans for the future?
My plans in music are always big and all over the place to be honest. But when I laid the foundation for my RATKID project, it was late 2020... when rave- and festival culture was taking massive blows. I have done a few try-outs in the 'free-party' circuit, but during this time I mainly focussed on some of my other projects for which I'm making music that is less rave- and festival targeted. Now that it seems we can finally enjoy more parties and festivals again, I am excited to drop more RATKID stuff as well. I enjoy and create harder styles in many variations, and try to put in some punk, both in sound and attitude. So I guess you can expect more of that, and I hope to have more of these a-wesome collaborations too!
